Friday used to mean something different

Financial Freedom Friday

TURNING KNOWLEDGE INTO WEALTH BY $MAXWELL

Is Friday at quitting time still your reward?

Five days of work, and since you make it through, you get two days back.

But let's be honest... It’s really more like a day and a half, because right around lunch on Sunday, you’re already thinking about Monday.

Man, I know that feeling all too well. Friday used to mean the exact same thing to me. It was the only temporary escape from the treadmill.

But then I realized something. Nothing about the calendar changes. What changes is who funds it.

When you have money in the bank, you have options.

When you're living paycheck to paycheck, you don't. You have a treadmill. Work every single week or go bust. That's not a choice, that's a trap.

When you live paycheck to paycheck you are one problem away from disaster. And if there's one thing I can guarantee you about the next ten years, it's that problems are coming. The transmission. The roof. The layoff nobody saw coming.

You can't stop the problems. You CAN decide whether they cost you a weekend or cost you everything.

Here's the part that took me way too long to figure out. That word, options, isn't a metaphor. It's literally how I built the bank.

Google reported this week. Beat on both lines. Good quarter. And the stock gapped down to its 200 day moving average, which we haven't seen since May.

A lot of people opened their app, saw red, and felt sick.

I felt something else. I love it when a good company goes on sale.

So I bought shares.

And I sold a put underneath,

which means I got paid to name the price I'd be happy to buy more at. If it comes to me, great. If it doesn't, I keep the money.

There's a personal reason that one mattered. I sold Google a while back to buy my lake house. My portfolio paid for the life. This week the market gave me a chance to start buying that position back. I'll take that trade every time.

We also sold on Johnson and Johnson when it gapped down on a double beat on earnings.. It closed this week.

No drama. No screen time. No genius required. The math just finished what it started.

That's the boring one. It's also the more important one.

Because here's what neither of those trades required: being right about anything. I didn't predict the gap down. I didn't call the JNJ move. I had cash, and I had rules, and the market did what markets do.

That's the difference between a treadmill and a system.

The treadmill needs you to show up every week forever. The system doesn't care what you do on Friday.

That's what this email is about. Not getting rich fast. Getting to the point where Friday is just a day.

Turning knowledge into wealth,
