Financial Freedom Friday is for people serious about financial freedom. Every Friday I share what 28+ years of trading taught me. My mistakes. My systems. The lessons that got me out of Corp IT by 40. Learn from someone already doing it.
The financial advisor told me to go work at Home Depot??
"I see you want to leave your corporate career behind," the financial advisor said, as we’re staring at all of my most private financial numbers displayed on a projector as we sit at a giant table in the conference room . "We think you should stay five more years."
I sat across from him, waiting for the punchline, the logic, the permission to be happy and free. There wasn't any of that.
"Or," he continued, "maybe you could go work at Home Depot part-time? I see you used to be a plumber. Doesn’t that sound fun?"
He was serious. I sat there staring at the screen. Thinking about the dividend stocks he was about to put my money into... And the 2% he wanted to manage my assets. I didn’t say a word, but though to myself: I'm sorry... what? And... NO that doesn't sound fun at all.
This was the "best" financial planner in town. A certified fiduciary. I had just handed him all of my most private financial data, which, if you've never done it, feels a lot like taking off all your clothes in a well-lit room.
He had just finished telling me that my savings and investments were double the benchmark for people my age. You’re doing better than anyone can expect.
And his expert diagnosis for my life was stick around the corporate grind after I just told him how miserable my life was, or go put on an orange apron and show people what isle their repair part is on?
It felt like being told you got another 5 years in a prison cell.
Does that sound like good advice to you? It didn’t to me. The rest of our meeting was meaningless, I probably should have just gotten up and walked to the car... Needless to say I never returned any of the firms messages, and I took a different direction. I remained the advisor my finances AND MY FREEDOM. At some point freedom is more important that the financial part...
I didn’t follow that advice and I’m incredibly grateful I didn't. Within six months of that meeting, I left the corporate grind behind forever. No W2, and I'm definitely not wearing an orange vest at a retail job. It’s been almost five years now, and my net worth has only grown larger, more importantly my freedom, my happiness, and my life has grown exponentially.
How? Simple systems, common sense approaches. Avoiding the hedonic treadmill where you don’t really care about showing off expensive toys that sit in the garage or closets and instead buy assets that appreciate, selling options, and generating passive income across multiple streams. Everything changes.
Here is the ultimate truth they won't tell you: No one is ever going to care about your money like you do. After a certain point, money isn’t your goal: freedom is...
The stock market is the most passive way to build wealth on earth, but if you push too hard, overleverage, or try to rush it, you will set money on fire. You might even push your freedom behind by years if not a decade. Trust me, I’ve been there, and I've seen this happen over and over to others...
You don’t need a high-priced professional to cap your vision of freedom. You just need a simple plan that makes sense for you. One you actually believe in.
That’s why I write these Friday emails, break down the math on Trade Tuesdays, and show you actual passive plays inside the Inner Circle.
Just because an "expert" has a title doesn't mean it’s good advice for your life.
Own your numbers, keep it simple, and build your own exit.
I’ve been where you are, I started out with nothing, I’ve blown money on really stupid things. I made the decision to leave my corporate grind behind when almost everyone else told me to wait. If you ever want to talk about it, I’m here for you.
