What a goat taught my good friend about vision

Financial Freedom Friday

TURNING KNOWLEDGE INTO WEALTH BY $MAXWELL

Quick note: I've turned over today's email to my good friend Eric . We met years ago at a trading meetup on the Gulf Coast, and we hit it off right away. He's become one of the people I turn to for guidance and advice. I'm grateful he agreed to bring some value to all of you today. I'll be back next week! Don't miss the picture at the bottom of the email! I'll forward any replies to him. -$Maxwell

Hey everyone!

It's Financial Freedom Friday. My name is Eric and I'm one of the admins over at Good Kids Trading.

Years ago, I was working on a farm in the middle of New Zealand's South Island. My daily chore was milking goats. After about a week, the goats and I were buddies. One day I was out gardening and one of them walked over, put its head on my shoulder, and just watched what I was doing. In that moment, I knew I'd eventually have goats of my own. I'm still working toward it (more about this at the end of this email.)

That's what I want to talk about today: vision. Not the vision that comes from your eyes- the vision that comes from within.

We all have ideas. We see things in our minds before they ever can be seen with our eyes. You look at a problem, and you see a solution. Before you wash your car, do the dishes, or clean your house, your mind sees what it SHOULD look like. Subconsciously your brain then comes up with a plan and you execute it. Now everyone around you gets to see what you saw before you started; a shiny car, clean dishes, or dust free house.

We all have this mental vision.

You possess the ability to see something no one else can see. Your eyes see what things look like right now. Your mind sees what can happen tomorrow. It was easy to dream big as a child. Why is it so hard as adults? I think it comes down to limiting beliefs that were learned along the way.

With eyes of a child, what do you see for yourself? What dream have you put off because of past experiences, previous failures, or limiting beliefs? The vision your mind sees is worth pursuing.

In the beginning, you may be the only one who can see your vision.

Regardless of how you feel about Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, or Warren Buffet as people, they all possessed a vision. They saw things that no one else could see. Elon Musk went to Russia to try to fund a rocket program and got laughed out of the country. Steve Jobs saw beyond cell phones functioning only as machines to call and text. Warren Buffet saw profit potential in companies everyone else wrote off.

What do you see?

Your vision doesn't have to revolutionize an industry to be worth pursuing. Do you see beauty underneath garbage at the side of the road? Take the time and clean it up! Do you see loving animals where others see too old, too difficult, or not worth it? Volunteer at your local ASPCA! You get my point. Your vision is valuable and actionable.

When you look at your finances, your job, and your investments, what do you see now? What does your mind see? What is your big dream? Financial advisors look at your finances and only see the percentage they get to take to "manage your money." I ask again, what do you see?

Learning to invest is no more difficult than learning to drive. The difference is that at 16, learning to drive equals freedom in a very tangible way. That's significant motivation! If you can drive, your world expands. You no longer rely on someone else to take you somewhere and then pick you up. You gain a level of independence.

As an adult, financial freedom isn't a function of how long you've lived. Investment choices you make today, bear their fruits sometimes years down the road. Investing is about consistency and patience. But if you aren't taking some level of ownership in the process, you'll always be dependent on someone to give you a ride and pick you up later.

If you've never invested before, start small. If you've never bought or sold a stock, do it with literally one share. Find a company, read about them. What do you see? If you see growth, profit, and success in the future, buy the stock! Start small. Build your comfort. Teach yourself that your vision is valuable. Tell us about it over at GKT!

If you're more experienced but aren't making progress to match your vision, maybe it is time to try something new. Again, come talk to us about it at GKT. Our community is collaborative. I love it when people share new ideas. If I'm convinced, I'll invest with you! Look at the trades we take and then ask why we are taking them. We'll answer. If you're convinced, invest alongside us too!

No matter what you do, don't give up on your vision. Define the vision as YOU see it. Pursue that vision until you've either reached the goal or your vision changes. Make that choice for yourself. You are worth it.

Happy Friday everyone!

PS: I worked on that farm in 2012. To get there, I accumulated some savings by working a manual labor job paying minimum wage. After a year, I had enough to spend three months in New Zealand working on various farms. I keep this photo as my motivation. My wife now sees the vision too. You can't see what I see… yet… but it's coming.
